With these questions in mind, I came across an article published in September 2009 which described the actual sales and introduction of the device into the United States. The device was first released in June throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland. Immediately following these countries, Russia, Canada, and Israel introduced the device to diabetic candidates. In the United States, Medtronic was a bit slower than other countries due to tight regulation by the FDA. The FDA spent months reviewing regulatory requirements in order to determine which data would appear in the device's approval application. The timeliness which the FDA exhibits can be viewed in a positive and a negative light. The device is being ensured for reliability and validity, but for the health of diabetic patients, it seems as if it would make more sense to expedite the reviewal process. Nevertheless, a Medtronic spokeswoman, Deanne McLaughlin, said that the FDA reviewal process was an "iterative process" making it the "first step."
Currently, the expected Medtronic revenue for the artificial pancreas is supposed to soar to $1.1 billion. Along with this, international sales are supposed to rise fourteen percent.
